So, I’ve been dreaming of a cute little patio area in my backyard for ages. You know, a place to chill with friends, drink some wine, and pretend I’m a fancy adult. But, uh, patios are expensive! Like, crazy expensive. So, I decided to get creative and DIY it on a budget.
First, I scoured Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace for used pavers. I ended up finding a bunch of concrete pavers for super cheap. They were a little rough around the edges, but nothing a little elbow grease couldn’t fix.
Next, I had to prep the area. This involved a lot of digging. And leveling. And more digging. My arms are still sore. But hey, free workout, right? I laid down a layer of gravel for drainage, then a layer of sand to create a smooth surface for the pavers.
Laying the pavers was like putting together a giant puzzle. It took a while, but it was actually kind of fun. I used a rubber mallet to tap the pavers into place and make sure they were level.
Once the pavers were down, I filled the gaps with polymeric sand. This stuff is like magic. It hardens when you wet it, which helps to keep the pavers in place and prevent weeds from growing in between them.
I added some string lights, a few potted plants, and a cheap outdoor rug. And voila! Instant patio. It’s not perfect, but it’s mine. And it cost way less than hiring a professional.
Now, I just need to find some cute outdoor furniture. Any suggestions? I’m thinking bistro set vibes.
So, yeah, you don’t need to spend a fortune to create a cute outdoor space. A little bit of DIY and a lot of patience can go a long way. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go pour myself a glass of wine and enjoy my new patio. Cheers!
