Okay, so, mulch. I used to think it was just, like, wood chips. Boring. Functional. But then I realized it’s actually kind of a landscaping superhero. Seriously!
First of all, it makes everything look instantly better. My flower beds went from “meh” to “magazine-worthy” in about an hour. It’s like the Instagram filter for your garden.
But it’s not just about looks, people. Mulch is actually super practical. It helps retain moisture in the soil, which means less watering for me (score!). It also suppresses weeds, which is a HUGE win. I hate weeding. Like, with a passion.
I went with shredded hardwood mulch. It was relatively cheap, and it looks pretty natural. Plus, it decomposes over time, which adds nutrients to the soil. Win-win-win!
Spreading the mulch was actually kind of therapeutic. I put on some music, grabbed my wheelbarrow, and just went to town. It’s surprisingly satisfying to see a nice, even layer of mulch around your plants.
Pro tip: Don’t pile the mulch up against the stems of your plants. That can cause rot. Leave a little space around the base of each plant for air circulation.
Now, my garden looks all neat and tidy. And I can spend less time watering and weeding, and more time, you know, actually enjoying it. So, yeah, I’m officially a mulch convert. Who knew wood chips could be so exciting?
